Dear All,
We will be participating in the OxfamTrailwalker UK 2008 event from Saturday 19th - Sunday 20th July. This is an endurance challenge where teams of four must complete a 100km (62 miles) course from the Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire to Brighton Race Course in less than 30 hours.
The aim of the event is to raise funds to help Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust and our team has committed to raise over £1,500. These organisations share a purpose: to end poverty and suffering and to help poor men, women, and children to improve their lives.
Oxfam GB is an independent, secular, non-government organisation working in over 70 countries. Oxfam believes that in a world rich in resources, poverty isn’t a fact of life but an injustice which must be overcome. Oxfam GB’s vision is of a fair world where everyone is safe, secure, educated, healthy, heard and equal.
The Gurkha Welfare Trust works in Nepal with Gurkha ex-soldiers and their wider communities, providing schools, educational materials and teacher-training for children and women. Improved education can mean better health, opportunities for employment and longer life expectancy, helping to break the poverty cycle.
We’re walking the 100km to fight poverty. Can you PLEASE help by sponsoring us? We acknowledge that some people were kind enough to donate last year before our plans for the 2007 walk had to be aborted late on. Those who donated on-line would have had their money accepted gratefully by the two charities. Although we cannot expect these individuals to sponsor us again, we would be extremely appreciative if they did!
• £23 could pay for 10 Oxfam buckets. Specially designed to be hygienic, secure and comfortable to carry by hand or by head, they play a vital role in any emergency and beyond, helping to save lives.
• £50 could pay to help someone start their own business which for many is the start they need to work their way out of poverty.
• £160 could pay for 500 trees. Planting fruit trees helps poor communities become more self-sufficient. The trees also provide shelter, and help to prevent soil erosion.
NB. Donations are tax deductible! Our preferred method of collection is online, so to donate please click here.
We’re putting in a huge effort into training to raise funds for a great cause and would appreciate your generous support. If you would like some background on the event go to the Oxfam Trailwalker Website.
Thanks for your support!
Jeff Crewdson & Chris Raggett.
